A Puppy?????

Saturday July 29, 2006

Can’t believe this is a puppy!
The newest addition to our Animal Farm family, Sam, 8 month old Great Pyrenees, to live with and guard the sheep.
Lori and I went to Fidler Farm in Troy, Missouri July 16th to pick him up in my Toyota (truck) Van. When he layed down he almost went across the width of my van. We had the middle seats out and a blanket for him to lay on. Then we took him out to his pasture, with the rams. The next day he escaped from the pasture near the gate, trying to follow us! We didn’t find out until we went to check on him just after noon the next day. After a lot of running around, on the hottest day of the year so far, during the hottest part of the day, and meeting a couple more of the neighbors out there, we drove back to the property. We were sitting in the van cooling off, and he sort of just appeared in the tree line in front of us. Silly boy. We were able to lead him back in through the gate, and get him settled into his new home. He’s kind of shy. But he’s a teenager. They say he won’t be done growing until he’s 2 years old, and he’s already huge! But I’m sure, as soon as he acquaints himself with the sheep, he’ll be a great guard dog.

Animal Farm is complete!!!!!

Sunday June 4, 2006

All the animals are safe and sound at their new home. The shearer met us at the property when we arrived with the last of the animals, the Runaway ram and the mini donkey, Sweet Pea. He sheared them all except the Llama, (and of course not the mini donkey) it started to pour down rain so they couldn’t finish. Here is their new home.

Here are some of our friends after shearing.

Frankie Lee and Runaway

and Kokomo before:

and Kokomo after

and here is all the fruits of our labor.
Over to the right (and in the after picture) looks like Kokomo made the largest contribution.

Animal Farm

Wednesday May 31, 2006

We spent Mother’s Day picking up our new family!!!! A friend drove his truck and horse trailer over with us to Springfield, Kentucky. It was a long trip and could only get the Mini Donkey, three ewes, three rams and three lambs in.
They suggested not putting the Alpaca and Llama in with them. So another trip a week later in my grandson’s truck with fence rack on the back we went to pick up the other two of our family.

Next phase we found the perfect piece of property West of Mt Vernon. It has a pole barn on it and plenty of room for our friends. With a lot of work putting up the fencing by my son-in-law Robert

and my son-in-law Rich, grandson Christopher,
granddaughter Sarah and my daughter Lori, we were able to take the Alpaca and Llama straight to their new home.
On Sunday, May 28th, Lori and Christopher went to pick up the three ewes and three lambs to bring them to their new home from their temporary home. It was quite an adventure for them. Had some help from friends Dale and Kim.
Next they went today to pick up the rams. It was a very rough day, more of an adventure. Next we will go tomorrow to pick up the mini burro and a ram (he is the Shetland in the middle) that is running around the nearby farms, but that is another story!!!

Its all coming together!!!

May Socks

Wednesday May 31, 2006

Finished my May socks. Had to finish another pair because the first had a knot in it and when I fixed it and continued the stripes were not going to come out right. I was soooooooooo mad!!!! I am going to let the company know so they can check with their source.
This pair is made from KnitPicks Wool of the Andes Natural, dyed with koolaid. I used size 15 circular from my Denise needles, pattern is Fuzzy Feet and they are pre-felted. Will have them on here when felting is finished.

Trying to add to our family

Tuesday May 9, 2006

The last week has been a little crazy! We found out about some friends needing a new home and have been trying to figure out how to get them here and where we will keep them and getting things ready for them.

My two daughters, two son-in-laws and I have been working on how to transport them from Springfield, Kentucky.

Its about 175 miles from us and has been a real problem.

Have had many different ways to go but really couldn’t put out any more money so had to keep looking.

Have been looking for some property, knowing the 5 acres( 5 of our 10 acres is Lake) was not going to be enough room for all our friends.

Still working on finding a piece of property, as an investment and for our friends to live on.
